Studio D School of Innovation and Design

Studio D is a 9th, 10th, and 11th grade program at Westwood High School that is dedicated to offering rigorous and challenging learning experiences that allows students to: Learn key academic content above and beyond the state standards, and bringing that content to life using project based learning. Develop essential 21st century skills such as collaboration, creativity, innovation, problem solving, critique, and revision that are valued and demanded from top businesses, universities, and professional organizations. Produce stunning, high-quality work that reflects profound learning and meets the needs of its User. Learning at Studio D begins with an authentic problem or ‘design challenge’ that sparks student interest and engagement. This challenge is then researched and attacked by our students using a 5-stage innovative design process. Along the way, students achieve academic standards while developing creative, collaborative, problem solving, and leadership skills. Students investigate, collaborate with experts in the field, make discoveries, synthesize data, brainstorm solutions, gain feedback, and reflect on their process. The result is incredible student work that is original and has real impact on the community and world around them.
