Grand Center Arts Academy

At Grand Center Arts Academy, the density of students with artistic sensibilities is incredibly unique. Many times it can be difficult to engage these students’ artistic skills with traditional coursework in their core classes. The Makerspace model at GCAA seamlessly adds the “arts” to STEAM, creating an interdisciplinary approach to learning that is unparalleled in St. Louis. The GCAA Makerspace is a “STEAM Room,” a space for students to maximize their creative genius. Each project permits students to integrate their understanding of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math in a project-based atmosphere. Rather than learning a concept first, and then demonstrating their understanding on a test, students in the Makerspace synthesize background knowledge and apply their artistic skills to learn and create.
